On water on land, in town
THE PAYS DE LA LOIRE REGION OFFERS A WONDERFUL VARIETY OF TOURING LANDSCAPES: COASTLINES, TOWN CENTRES, COUNTRYSIDE, RIVERWAYS, LOCAL INDUSTRIES, WINEMAKING, MARSHLANDS, GREEN FIELDS AND HEDGROWS...
Islands, they’re not all at sea…Alex and Annabelle and their family on Ile de Rochefort island. Alex is a fisherman, Annabelle is an environmental coordinator. With Terre et Loire, they invite you to discover their island, the Loire river and the peaceful pastime of fishing. Seasonal.
I also recommend an other walking tour companie led by teams of enthusiasts. They’ll guide you around their local areas full of history and imagination. The Route du Sel tour takes you through the Sallertaine salt marshes. I recommend the guided options. I went on one hosted by Luc and learned everything there was to know about the Abbey on Ile Chauvet or the local marsh bird species!
To discover the Loire country on the water, enjoy any of the many nautical-themed tours in Pays de la Loire. A whole network of professionals who share the same values as I do: quality, safety, introduction to the environment. The state-certified and qualified instructors will guide you around the natural and historical heritage of their local environment.
There are many ways of getting around in this network; sailing, traditional sailing, kayak or canoe, rowing, snorkelling, but to name a few.

Why not try a cycle tour in the Loire region, there are over 800 km of routes from Nevers to Saint Brévin. Or cycle along the Vélodyssée path that takes your all the way from Brittany to Hendaye (at least for the French part!). Discover a great many more shorter cycle routes around the Pays de Retz region. > La Loire à vélo et La Vélodyssée
Pornic is close to two other towns that invite you to visit their heritage from another viewpoint
The town of Saint Nazaire offers guided tours of its industrial flagships (STX, AIRBUS, the Port, etc.) and cruises to enjoy the waterside features of the town. Nantes hosts the event every summer, with the Voyage to Nantes trip. A pathway of art unlike any other in the town. The Estuary path links the two towns with astonishing works of art along the banks of the Loire. > Saint-Nazaire Tourism , Voyage to Nantes and The Estuary path.
